  • Barn Ventilation

Ventilation is one of the most decisive factors for milk yield and animal welfare. Well-designed airflow prevents heat stress, reduces respiratory disease and supports measurable milk production gains.

Natural Ventilation

In barns with open ridges, high ceilings and wide side openings, warm air rises and exits naturally. Side curtain systems allow seasonal control of openings. When designed correctly, this approach needs little energy and can replace much of the mechanical ventilation load.

Mechanical Support: HVLS Fans

In wide, high-ceiling barns, HVLS (high-volume, low-speed) fans move large volumes of air at low speed. Effective temperature on the animal can drop 3–5 °C in summer. Energy efficiency is typically 4–6 times better than conventional fans.

Hybrid Approach

The modern Dutch standard uses natural ventilation as the base and HVLS fans as a support system during peak heat stress. This delivers low energy cost and high animal welfare.

The Mila Entegre Solution

We engineer ventilation plans based on barn geometry, herd size and local climate. For equipment details, see our HVLS Ventilation page.
