In small ruminant farming, humidity is one of the most decisive environmental factors for health and productivity. High moisture increases respiratory disease, ammonia buildup and yield loss.
Causes of Moisture Buildup
- Low ceiling / poor ventilation: Moisture cannot escape.
- Inadequate drainage: Urine and manure pool on the floor.
- Overstocking: Insufficient air volume per animal.
- Poor bedding management: Wet bedding left in place too long.
The Right Approach
- High ceiling (min. 5 m ridge): Critical for venting moisture upward.
- Open ridge + side curtains: Foundation of natural air circulation.
- Slatted floor: Manure drops below, minimising surface moisture.
- Drainage slope: Floor at 1–2% grade with channel system.
The Mila Entegre Solution
We design small ruminant facilities with humidity control as a priority, combining high clearance, natural airflow and hygienic floor planning.
